The Shadow of the Dragon

Writings in this section will be devoted to examining the threats facing indigenous European culture, including Islam, modernisation and apathy.

The Order of the Dragon

The Order of the Dragon was a knightly order dedicated to protecting Europe from its enemies. It was brought into being by King Sigismund of Hungary on the 13th December 1408 and concentrated much of its efforts defending 15th Century Europe from the onslaught of the Ottoman Turks. The Dragon from which the Order takes its name is that slayed by St. George in Christian mythology, a symbol of The Beast of the Book of Revelation. The Dragon represents the foes of Christendom, more specifically medieval Europe, whom the Order sought to repel and destroy with utmost force. In the Order’s insignia (above) the Dragon is pinned under the Cross of St George, representing Christendom’s victory over its enemies. What the Order is best remembered for in modern times is the connection with the name of Vlad Tepes, or Vlad the Impaler.

Unlike his father Vlad II (Vlad Dracul, or Vlad the Dragon; named so because of his membership in the Order), who was an Ottoman vassal, Vlad Drăculea (Vlad, son of the Dragon), showed no reticence in warring with the Turks and his name became one forever associated amongst the Romanian people as a by-word for defending one’s lands against foreign aggression. In particular it was his unbridled use of brutality as a psychological and political tool for which Drăculea was famed. Unwavering and resolute in his cause he brought dread into the hearts of enemies such as Mehmed II, who upon seeing the impaled corpses of 20,000 Turkish prisoners outside the walls of Târgovişte on leading his army there, returned horrified to Constantinople leaving the campaign in the hands of others. Eventually more than 40,000 Turks were said to have been slain in the crushing defeat that followed.

The relevance of the goals of the Order of the Dragon continue to exist in modern times. Europe, moribund by its own hand, is turning itself over to its cultural and ideological enemies. The Dragon that seeks to supplant us takes many forms, not least that of the Islamic guise it has worn in the past. All of Europe is under the Shadow of the Dragon. Our foes now permeate from within, our gates opened wide to the Trojan Horse of integration. Those with the heart, guts and determination of a Drăculea should stand with bravery and fight the barbarian hordes that seek to dominate our weakening lands. They should make a moral and vocal stance against the Vichy partisans that sell our culture and our heritage so cheaply. They should resist those who grasp so greedily at the opportunity to milk the naïveté and inflated consciences of those whose masochistic cravings for dhimmitude threaten to destroy our relative freedoms.
